Building Confidence Through Tiny Ballet: Why Our 2+ Ballet Class Is So Much More Than Dance
At Dancecatz Romsey, we believe that every great dance journey begins with tiny steps — and that’s exactly what our Tiny Ballet class for ages 2+ is all about.
Led by Miss Katrina, our Thursday morning sessions at Abbotswood Community Centre are more than just a dance class. They’re a place for little ones to grow in confidence, bond with their grown-ups, and spark their imaginations — all while learning the very first foundations of ballet.
What Happens in a Tiny Ballet Class?
Each week begins with a warm welcome. The children choose their coloured floor spot — a small moment of autonomy that helps them feel comfortable and settled. We gently wake up our toes, greet each other with Casper the Cat (our beloved Dancecatz mascot!), and begin to move with purpose and joy.
Our sessions include:
Balancing, walking, jumping and skipping — all developing coordination and motor skills.
Animal walks to introduce musicality and rhythm.
Parachute games to encourage teamwork and social confidence.
A bubble cool-down to help the body relax and settle.
And of course, we finish with a moment of celebration — showing off our favourite ballet position to Miss Katrina and earning a well-deserved sticker!
It's Not Just About Ballet...
What makes this class truly special is that it's as much about emotional growth as it is about dance technique. Whether it’s going on an imaginary picnic or sharing ideas with the group, we’re always encouraging creativity, communication, and connection.
Children in this class learn how to:
Express their imagination through movement
Speak confidently in a group
Take turns and share props
Interact with adults outside their immediate family
These are skills that benefit them far beyond the dance studio.
Parents, You’re Part of the Magic Too
We love when parents and carers get involved. Especially when a little one feels shy, there’s nothing more encouraging than seeing their grown-up jumping, twirling, or clapping alongside them. Your presence helps your child feel supported — and shows them that movement is joyful, not scary.
Come Give It a Try!
